Welcome to COMOS, a new and exciting way to travel
COMOS offers complete E-Mobility services by integrating various parts of the EV ecosystem and value chain; i.e. EV users, EV charging providers, EV fleet operators, parking management operators and telecommunication network operators, all in a concept simplified as“Cohesive Mobility Solution”(COMOS). COMOS deploys public charging infrastructure, including centralized network management system that integrates both electric vehicles and charging stations.
COMOS's primary objective is to provide smart connectivity and mobility solution that promotes sustainable green environment, and addresses the government's current agenda in reducing the CO2 emission, reducing the nation's fuel consumption thus reducing fuel subsidy and to encourage the use of public transport hence reducing city traffic congestion, by promoting a new lifestyle of using alternative mode of transportation through rental and car-sharing concept.
COMOS also supports the National Automotive Policy (NAP) by creating critical mass for the utilization of EVs. COMOS will create much needed awareness among the public and this will lead to better appreciation and acceptance of EV in Malaysia. This will then help create the ecosystem that will further encourage OEMs to bring their EV and related technology to Malaysia, and help spur the development of supporting EV component industry as part of the objectives of the NAP.
Cohesive Mobility Solution
COMOS is a car sharing service using EV fleet (electric cars and bikes) integrated with EVSE (charging station) and parking reservation and management system as well as user mobile apps, allowing users to pick up or drop their EVs at any designated green parking bays within the city.
- Promoting sustainable green environment through emission reduction
- Reduction of fuel consumption and rationalization of fuel subsidy
- Promoting a new lifestyle of alternative mode of mobility
- Promoting a car-sharing concept hence reducing congestion and promoting utilization of public transportation
How COMOS changes the current Status Quo
The objective of the project is to integrate the enabling elements of stakeholders in the country towards working together to develop the smart mobility concept in the transportation network. COMOS Consortium will be the National EV Fleet Management Operator, who manages and operates the EV rental service, by connecting LRT commuters from the end mile to desired destinations.
Cohesive Mobility Solution (COMOS) is an alternative mode of transportation providing convenience and enabling the last mile solution to current public transportation infrastructure.
- Promoting sustainable green environment through emission reduction
- Reduction of fuel consumption and rationalization of fuel subsidy
- Promoting a new lifestyle of alternative mode of mobility
- Promoting a car-sharing concept
GreenTech's Role as a Partner to COMOS
GreenTech Malaysia, in partnership with Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI) and CMS Consortium Sdn Bhd will be launching a Cohesive Mobility Solution (COMOS) Program in 2014. The COMOS Program is essentially an EV car sharing program that is structured to encourage the growth of the local EV market, increase the number of public EV charging station, and provide the last mile connectivity to the urban LRT and MRT network.
The COMOS Program comprises of an EV fleet of cars and motorcycles available for urban commuters to move between the MRT Stations and office buildings, hotels, or shopping complexes. Charging stations will be available at both locations set-up by both the COMOS Service Provider and the building owners. This system comprises of an EV cars available for urban commuters to move between the MRT Stations and office buildings, hotels, or shopping complexes. Charging stations will be available at both locations set-up by both the COMOS Service Provider and the building owners. Access to the COMOS network is open through annual membership and mobility-on-demand methods.
GreenTech plays an active role to raise public awareness towards green technology. COMOS is one of the initiative that introduce a better public transport services which provide the last mile connectivity to the urban LRT and MRT network. This initiative will encourage Malaysian to use public transport and enable them to move easily around the city. This is an effort to reduce private cars on the roads, expected less 7,000 vehicle entering in the city and hence less traffic. Therefore, it can reduce CO2 emissions by 74%. Its also using clean and quiet vehicles. On top of that, its increase the flexibility of the public transport offered in a city, which increase utilization of public transport up to 25,000 users in 5 years. Public can save by sharing the costs of car ownership. As well as introduce towards a healthy lifestyle.
The Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) is an agency of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI)
The Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) is to act as a strategic thinker and to serve as the focal point & coordination centre for the development of the local automotive industry in all matters, including analysis and recommendation of automotive related policies. MAI is responsible to enhance the competitiveness of the automotive industry through development of Strategic, Human Capital, Technology, Supply Chain, and Outreach Facilitation.
MAI in collaboration with Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech) and CMS Consortium have taking an effort and first step to create and increase awareness of the use of EV among the Malaysian public on the benefits of green vehicles and alternative transportation.
The National Automotive Policy (NAP) was introduced to transform the domestic automotive industry and integrate it into the regional and global industry network that is increasingly competitive.
The recently launched NAP 2014 has set a target to develop Malaysia, as the regional automotive hub in Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) and in doing so will increase the value-added activities and continuously develop domestic capabilities. One of the promoted segments of EEV is the Electric Vehicle (EV). EVs are still relatively new and have yet to achieve its fullest potential as a car of choice. But EVs are very environmental friendly, as these vehicles emit basically zero emission.
As the government is committed to reduce the carbon intensity by 40% in 2020, the introduction of EVs on Malaysia’s road is very timely. In fact, the pollution index has showed that transportation and mainly cars is the 2nd highest contributor to the index in the country. COMOS is the 1st of such initiative in Malaysia as well as in ASEAN. This initiative will help to reduce the CO2 emission and the consumption of fuel leading to a lower fuel subsidy. Car sharing is a form of public transportation hence able to reduce the traffic congestion. This EV car sharing is in line with the NAP to create a critical mass for the utilization of EVs. It will enhance the awareness among the public and will lead to a better acceptance of EV in Malaysia.
This initiative will further spur the development of EV in the country and will spin off other related benefits such as the installation of charging infrastructure, production of charging systems and components, battery recycling activities and others. It will also provide Malaysians and communities the opportunity to appreciate driving an EV and to compare the EV technology against the conventional internal combustion engine. MAI will enable COMOS initiative in the area of capacity building including technology and supply chain as well as human capital development as per National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2014 direction.
Prasarana to allocate exclusive for CMS for a limited time period, parking spaces for COMOS EV at each identified LRT/Monorail/MRT/BRT/LRT3 stations based on CMS expansion plan under Prasarana-COMOS EV Car Sharing Program; and CMS to execute awareness and promotional campaigns at LRT/Monorail/MRT/BRT stations.
