In their bid to reduce carbon footprint, CMS Consortium Ecotour Sdn Bhd has introduced a fleet of 10 electric cars (EV) that are available for hire.

Users can find the EV or Cohesive Mobility Solution (Comos) vehicles at selected stations around the city centre.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib was proud with the initiative by the company to create a greener city.

He said Comos was an innovative and comprehensive solution to protect the environment.

“We are forging ahead to transform KL into a green city. We have too many cars in KL that is creating a lot of carbon emissions and it is not good for the environment.

“I believe this initiative will act as a catalyst towards environment protection,” he said after the launch of Comos this morning at Menara UOA, Bangsar.

Ahmad Phesal also urged developers to incorporate the Comos stations in their development.

“We will ask the developers if they can provide charging stations for the electric cars in their projects,” he said.

CMS Consortium Ecotour Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said that they were looking to roll out 50 EV by the end of the year.

He said that the response had been encouraging.

“We already have a membership of 400 users and we are looking to add more. The Comos will create much needed awareness and this will lead to better appreciation of EVs in the country,” he said adding that there were plans to expand their network to other states nationwide.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group managing director Azmi Abdul Aziz said that five of the LRT stations had been converted to Comos EV stations.

“This number will grow throughout our network to fulfill the communities’ needs and provide convenience for them,” he said.

The 10 Comos stations are located at the Bangsar LRT station, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia KL Campus, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Medan Tuanku Monorail station, Universiti Malaya, Universiti LRT station, Asiajaya LRT station, Kelana Jaya LRT station, Lorong P. Ramlee and KL Sentral station.

Users will have to first register with Comos before they are given a membership card and an account that is linked to their credit card.

Three types of membership are available for users which are RM300 yearly, RM50 monthly and RM25 weekly.

Comos users will be billed RM8 per 15 minutes usage and the minimum usage is 30 minutes.

There is also a 25% promotional discount on the usage rate for the first three months from RM8 to RM6.

There is also an early bird promotion where users need to pay only RM50 for a yearly membership.

It is a flat rate for the EV charges for any booking from six hours and above and users must return the vehicles before 10pm. – May 30, 2015.
